Spray Foam Check List

Your shopping cart includes at least one Low Pressure Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) kit. Below are a few basic requirements to help ensure a safe and positive experience when using any SPF kit. These requirements apply to all the different brands of disposable SPF kits on the market.

Operating Instructions – Please read through the manufacturer’s operating instructions prior to using any SPF kit.  Download Product Literature

Temperature – All SPF kits need to be conditioned to the proper temperature prior to use.  Click here for tips on maintaining proper temperature.

  • Closed Cell: 75°F – 85°F
  • Open Cell: 85°F – 95°F

Shake Well – All SPF kits need to be “shaken well” prior to use.  Small Kits – Shake the whole box for at least 2 minutes.  Large Kits – Remove each tank from its box and roll back and forth on the ground for at least 2 minutes.

Test Shot – A small test sample should be sprayed prior to using the kit in the final application. A test shot is important to help ensure any potential issues are addressed prior to spraying the kit.

 “30 second rule” – Whenever you stop spraying for 30 seconds or more, you will need to replace the nozzle. Failure to do so may result in damage to the gun.

Upright Position – The tanks must remain in the upright position (valve at the top) while spraying foam.  Placing each tank in its box will help to keep it upright.

Spray Technique – When spraying begins, make sure you are holding the gun perpendicular (a 90° angle) to the substrate. For best results, maintain a distance between 12 to 18 inches from nozzle tip to substrate. ; Spraying with the gun more than 18″ from the substrate will result in a higher density foam and an overall lower board foot yield from the kit.
